Overview

The Dhaulagiri region, separated from the Annapurna region by the Kali Gandaki gorge (the deepest in the world), is home to some 15 peaks above 7,000 m in height. Coined from the Sanskrit word dhavala giri, meaning “White Mountain”, the main peak of Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), the sixth highest in the world, is one of the major highlights of this trek. Meant for the more adventurous, this trip circles the shining snow covered peak. The Dhaulagiri region is rarely visited and the valleys and villages surrounding it are untouched and, therefore, unspoiled.

Our Cho Oyu Trekking guides you across the Kali Gandaki River and then north into the heart of the Dhaulagiri massif. Excellent views of the Dhaulagiri range can be explored in this trek. The hidden valley (after crossing the French cole (5,360 m), which is the highest point of the trek) gives you a heavenly taste of the world of snow. The Dhampus Pass between Tukuche peak and Thapa peak is another superb haven that we will be passing through en route to Yak Kharka then onward to Jomsom.

From here, you can fly back to Kathmandu via Pokhara. Trekking in this area is relatively strenuous and needs some basic mountaineering knowledge. As lodges are far and few in between, our team will arrange night stops in tents during the trek.
