Developed by the Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Program (TRPAP), a joint undertaking of the Government of Nepal, UNDP, SNV (Netherlands) and DFID (UK), the "Tamang Heritage Trail" is a new “off-the-beaten-track” trek, which highlights the ancient and rich traditional lifestyle of the people of this region who are mostly Tamangs who migrated to Nepal from Kerung in Tibet. Though they call themselves Tamangs, their culture and traditions are similar to the Tibetans rather than the Tamangs residing in the mid-hills of Nepal.
The Tamang Heritage Trail is a superb introduction to trekking in Nepal, combining some of the most beautiful scenery and unspoiled Tibeto-Tamang culture. The trailhead of this trekking destination is just a day’s drive from Kathmandu. The trek offers a variety of unique experiences – Tamang rituals, culture, festivals, traditional architecture, costumes and local dances.
There is a view point at Goljung, from where one can get awe inspiring views of the Langtang and Kerung (Tibet) regions. Visitors can also pick up exclusive handicraft items like traditional caps, mufflers and other items that are on sale in these villages. Gatlang is a large Tamang village set high on a hillside among terraced fields. The beautiful Parvati Kunda (Lake) and the Chorten trail are nearby.
En route, at Tatopani, trekkers can enjoy a dip in the natural hot-water spring that has the power to heal many an ailment. Nagthali Danda (3,300 m), the highest point on the trek, is open grassland with amazing views of the snow covered Himalayan peaks. The ancient monasteries and houses adorned with rich wood engravings at Thuman village are worth seeing. The people of this village also love to sing and dance. At Briddim one gets to experience Tamang hospitality at its best, where there is home-stay facilities available.
We, Cho Oyu Trekking company can tailor your trek and make it a camping or combination trip according to your desire.
